My first ride, a Bangladeshi Rickshaw.
Well hello there! This page is by far the toughest to write. About me.. hmm.. here goes…
I am Rahul Mitra. Born and brought up in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Came to the US in 2006. Went to school at The University of Texas at Austin. Got degrees in Electrical Engineering and Economics. I’ve been told that I am quite weird, but have a sense of humour that is easy to associate with.
I like music, reading anything and everything I can find, playing the guitar, traveling, getting lost, the outdoors, making friends, getting found, playing cricket and tennis, movies and more…
I am me.. Rahul Mitra
I speak my mind, I try to stay positive, though it’s hard sometimes. I have an eclectic set of interests and find ways to connect with people through them. I am a very social person and I cherish my relationships like no other.
I like differences. Anything that makes you different from me, intrigues me. Cultures, religions, languages – the myriad of avenues that makes human beings unique.
I love traveling! Been to some 33 countries so far… 163 to go…
Mexico, long time ago.
Sometime in 2006, I joined Engineers Without Borders – UT, and then ended up traveling to Mexico to implement a water system for a rural community. That trip, detoured my life plans. It burst the bubble I had lived in for 18 years.
I got to experience a culture very alien to me, and even though I was half-a-planet away from home, I felt home. Human beings are all the same, everywhere – their hopes
I, for the first time, heard the Call to Humanity. I discovered that the thing “greater than yourself”, is not your family, country, God, everything you’ve worked for, or any ideology. It is Humanity.
That’s my calling, my Alma Mata, my life.
I hope that you can get a sense of who I am through my blog.
Heed the call!
